Service Notes: The Alderman Letter makes reference to John being listed in Capt. Jonathan Lowe's Virginia militia on April 28, 1778.  Please contact us if you have proof of this service.

John secured William May as a substitute. May was dismissed from service in 1779.

UPDATE: As of Dec 2008, a line was established with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on John Bolt Sr.

John died seven years before the patent and introduction of the Daguerreotype hit the world in 1839, so the possibility of a photograph of him is out of the question. However, it's possible that a drawing or painting of him may exist.  A photograph of his home has been said to exist.    For more on John Bolt Sr.
