BOLT HAPLOTYPE #3 - Benjamin Bolt
The following participants are descended
from Benjamin Bolt, son of Sarah Bolt. Since Sarah was a female, the Bolt
Y-chromosome from
Robert Bolt Sr. was not passed to her. However, the ancestral haplotype (DNA
signature) for Benjamin should someday assist in revealing his paternity.

The markers in red are considered to be
"fast-moving" markers, which means they are more susceptible to an increased
rate of mutation. Y-chromosome DNA mutates on an average of once in a 200-year
period.
The Haplogroup (ethnic origin) results are for haplogroup
R1b, the most common European group. Some of the participants are also "WAMH" which stands for
Western Atlantic
Modal Haplotype. Benjamin's haplogroup is "I", which originated in
northwest Europe, primarily found in Scandinavian and Scottish populations.
Data submitted on July 1, 2005 to Kerchner's
Surname Projects YSTR Haplotype Mutation Rate Log for Robert Bolt Sr.'s Deduced
Ancestral Haplotype. See:
Unique Transmission Events (UTE) Descent
Chart
DYS Chart Indicating Unique Mutations
PROJECT RESULTS:
Y-chromosome DNA testing conclusively shows that first seven R1b1 participants
in Group #1 share a common Bolt
ancestor. These results reinforce and validate the data contained in the bible transcription; Robert
Bolt Sr. as the common ancestor.
*Ancestral haplotype (DNA signature) - DNA matches between 6th cousins, reveals the
pattern of Robert Bolt Sr.'s Y-DNA, also known as a ancestral haplotype. The more Bolt
males to DNA test and match, the more Robert Sr.'s DNA pattern will be revealed and
established.
(For definitions on DNA
terminology, please visit ISOGG's
Glossary
UNDERSTANDING THE RESULTS:
In November 2004, Family Tree DNA introduced a program called "FTDNATiP"
(Family Tree DNA Time Predictor)
that calculates the probability of a common ancestor using DNA matches and it also allows
for genealogical
data input. The Abraham and John 25-marker match produced a result of a 94.15%
probability of a common
ancestor in the last 300 years.

DNA COLLECTION METHOD:
The DNA is extracted painlessly from buccal cells
(saliva/cheek cells)
example of how a DNA sample is collected.
ELIGIBILITY:
Only males with the Bolt surname (or a variation) are
eligible to participate in the Y-chromosome DNA testing. If the Bolt surname was
obtained by the male through adoption, or the taking of a stepfather's surname, then the
DNA test will also not work as far as revealing relation to others with the Bolt surname.
An inheritance chart shows
the path that the DNA follows through the generations. It is highly recommended that you
view the video
and read through the "FAQ" page to learn more about genetic genealogy and it's
success stories. PLEASE NOTE: Females do not have a Y-chromosome, which
is what's utilized in surname DNA testing. However, females can participate by
recruiting male relatives to DNA test, and some females may be able to participate through
mtDNA (mitochondrial) testing. The mtDNA test is NOT used in surname
testing, but rather, it reveals a relationship between two females on their direct
maternal lines. It may be possible to use the mtDNA test on a direct female
descendant of Mary Bolt Garrard, and a direct
female descendant of Rebecca Meherg, to
discover if Rebecca was indeed a Bolt.
DNA TEST PRICING:
The Bolt DNA Project begins with the 37-marker Y-DNA test which receives the special group
discount pricing through Family Tree DNA of $189 + $2 shipping. The 37-marker
Y-Chromosome test retails for $259 when not taken through a group project. The group
discounted rate for the mtDNA (mitochondrial) test is $129 + $2 shipping. The mtDNA
test can be taken by males and females.
Family Tree DNA recently established a "General Fund" option for people to
contribute funds towards the cost of DNA testing. A General Fund contribution can
also be made "in memory" of someone. Click here
to contribute to the Bolt General Fund.
DNA testing scholarships are available for male
BOLT surnamed residents of Great
Britain - please contact me for qualifying details.
